KENT, Ohio - After dropping the opening game of the Blue and Gold World Series, the Gold team responded with a decisive win, 9-2, over the Blue team Sunday at Schoonover Stadium to set the stage for the finale Monday.

A pair of sophomores jump-started the Gold offense in the top of the first inning. Jimmy Rider walked before Kyle McMillen ripped a double to straight away center to  score the first run of the game.

The Gold team was able to capitalize on errors in the second inning as freshmen Phil Smith and Evan Campbell both reached on errors. Senior Jared Humphreys and Rider made the Blue team pay as they drove in both the runners to extend the lead to three.

That was all freshman Addison Dunn would need on the mound. The Warren, PA native threw three innings of scoreless ball to pick up the win. He struck three, walked two and allowed one hit to earn the win. Freshmen Brian Taricska threw three innings in relief, while David Wright tossed a 1-2-3 seventh to slam the door.

Freshman George Roberts continued his hot hitting in the series with a RBI double to right field in the third as Gold continued to push the lead. Humphreys added a second RBI single to make it 5-0.

The Blue team managed to cut the deficit to three in the fifth; however, Rider hit a sacrifice fly to push the lead back to four. Roberts belted his second home run in as many games in the sixth to run the advantage to five before Gold added two more insurance runs in the top of the seventh.

Casey Wilson started for the Blue team and took the loss. He tossed three innings, was plagued by defensive woes as he allowed five runs. Freshman Christian Lockett surrendered two runs and fanned one in his three innings of work, while sophomore Ryan Adams pitched the final inning, struck out two and gave up two runs.

The intrasquad scrimmage wraps up Monday at 3:30 p.m. at Schoonover Stadium.
