The Golden Flashes Club - About Us
The Golden Flashes Club is a group comprised of passionate donors to Kent State Athletics which depends on philanthropy to provide Kent State student-athletes the assistance they need to excel academically and athletically. Your tax-deductible gift to The Golden Flashes Club allows Kent State to provide support to more than 400 student-athletes every year, as well as operational support for 17 varsity sports as well as Cheer and Dance programs. The primary goal of The Golden Flashes Club is to help offset the $7.2 million annual scholarship bill and capital enhancements to Kent State athletic facilities.
The Golden Flashes Club office is located in the Scolin MacLean Lounge on the ground floor of the MAC Center near the ticket office.
In recognition of your support, The Golden Flashes Club can provide members with various hospitality options, premium seating opportunities, preferred parking, donor appreciation games with game day giveaways, special events and much more. How to Become a Member:
Any gift to Kent State Athletics earns you a place in The Golden Flashes Club. Gifts of $500 or more are eligible to receive membership advantages. If you would like to make a contribution you may choose from a variety of ways:
- A one-time contribution
- A pledge that spreads your commitment over a specific amount of time
- Contributing appreciated securities
- Various planned giving options
- Making an honorary or memorial gift
- Staff payroll deduction
How to Give:

Matching Gifts:
In many instances, gifts to The Golden Flashes Club may qualify for matching gifts from employers. If your company participates in a matching gift program, you will receive credit toward the total contribution. For more information and to obtain the appropriate paperwork, contact your company's personnel office. Please check with your employer and enclose your company’s matching gift form with your contribution or visit www.matchinggifts.com/KentState to see if your employer extends this benefit to their employees.
Gifts in Kind:

How do I receive benefits through The Golden Flashes Club?
Any gift to any athletics fund, whether it be operational or scholarships, qualifies you for benefits through The Golden Flashes Club, except for event funds like the TGFC Event fund, and the Rango Invitational Fund.

Do I need to give at a certain time in order to receive benefits?
The benefits cycle is concurrent with Kent State’s fiscal year, July 1-June 30. Your benefits become active from the date you make your gift until the end of the fiscal year (June 30).

Does my payment for special events qualify as a gift?
No, the goal of The Golden Flashes Club is to directly support student-athlete scholarships and help close the gap on our annual $7.2 million scholarship bill. Tickets and fees for events help cover the event costs, so they are not qualified as gifts.

If my gift is to a specific sport, does that count as a gift to The Golden Flashes Club?
Yes! As long as the gift goes toward that sport’s scholarship and/or enhancement fund, you will be eligible to receive benefits from The Golden Flashes Club.

If my gift is to an athletics endowment, does that count as a gift to The Golden Flashes Club?
Yes! As long as the gift goes toward an athletic endowment. Certain rules apply when giving to men’s basketball funds. Please contact your philanthropic advisor if you have questions.

Do employment matching gifts count as part of my gift total?
Yes! You will receive credit for all matching gifts. Please be aware that match amounts are NOT tax-deductible. Please visit www.kent.edu/match to see if your employer offers a matching benefit.

Are my gifts to The Golden Flashes Club tax-deductible?
All gifts not associated with ticket sales or other benefits are 100 percent tax-deductible. The Golden Flashes Club and the Kent State University Foundation recommend consulting with your tax advisor regarding any donations made to Kent State Athletics.
