ROCK HILL, S.C. - Starter Alex White and his North Carolina teammates overpowered Kent State Friday afternoon at Winthrop Ballpark in an 8-1 win during second-round action of the 2008 Coca-Cola Classic.

The sophomore right-hander was magnificent in his six innings of work.  He allowed one unearned run, four hits, walked one and struck out six.  It was his second win of the season after he shut down FAU last week.

Meanwhile, White's opposite number, KSU junior Chris Carpenter struggled.  He was touched up for four runs in the first and three more in the second.  Wildness basically accounted for the four first-inning runs, as UNC's run-scoring plays barely left the infield.  In the second inning he allowed the runs thanks to four hard-hit balls.  He finished the day after four innings after yielding seven earned runs  (eight total), seven hits, a pair of walks and he also plunked three.

Kent State got its single tally in the third.  After a Doug Sanders single, Ben Klafczynski smacked a single to right field and outfielder Tim Fedroff got caught.  He came in too far and the hard-hit single got past him.  Sanders scored and Klafczynski ended up at second as the Flashes got on the board.

Down 8-1 after four, Kent State went to its bullpen and brought in true freshman Kyle Hallock.  He proceeded to perhaps steal the show by putting on the best pitching performance on either side.  Against the same starters, Hallock tossed five shutout innings and allowed just two hits - one in the eighth and one in the ninth.  In the fifth, sixth and seventh, Hallock was perfect, three up and three down every time.  He struck out Garrett Gore twice, who up until then had a single and three runs scored.  Of Hallock's 60 pitches, 38 were strikes.  He had a total of five strikeouts.

Now 1-4 on the season, the Golden Flashes will battle host Winthrop on Saturday at 1.
