Panther’s score game winning goal with eight seconds left
KENT, Ohio — Pitt’s Jenna Greenfield scored with eight seconds remaining to send the Panthers to a 2-1 victory over host Kent State today at the KSU Soccer Field.
Senior Kimberly Dimitroff (Oakville, Ontario / Iroquois Ridge) scored the quickest goal in school history to give the Golden Flashes a 1-0 advantage. After a Pitt foul, Dimirtoff took a free kick from sophomore Jackie Barath (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) on one bounce and knocked the ball in on a header from 10 yards out just 24 seconds into the contest. The goal broke the previous record of 53 seconds, also scored by Dimitroff, against Buffalo last season.
Kent State (1-4) held onto the 1-0 lead until the final minutes when Jennifer Kritch evened the count for the Panthers. Kritch’s goal in the 82nd minute bounced off the right post and crossed into the goal from 20 yards out.
Pitt (4-2) would keep the pressure on the KSU defense leading to Greenfield’s game winner. Greenfield took a pass from Kritch and scored from 12 yards out on the left side.
“We’re close to where we need to be,” said Golden Flash Head Coach Rob Marinaro, “We just need to finish off games.”
Junior Kris Nelson (Springboro, Ohio / Springboro), made eight stops in goal for KSU, including six in the second half. Alison Finch totaled four saves for the Panthers.
Pitt held a huge 25-11 advantage in shot attempts, including an 18-6 edge in the final 45 minutes.
KSU is back in action this Wednesday at home vs. Youngstown State. Game time is schedule for 4:00 pm.
