KENT, Ohio — Kent State sophomore running back Eugene Jarvis may be small in stature — he’s only 5-foot-5 — but no one in the country has put up bigger rushing numbers at this point of the season than the Pittsburgh, Pa. native. Thanks to a career-high 230-yard effort on Saturday in a 33-25 win at Ohio, Jarvis now leads the nation with 769 yards rushing.

Jarvis has a narrow eight-yard lead over Michigan’s Mike Hart (761 yards), while Central Florida’s Kevin Smith is third with 713 yards. Jarvis is third nationally in rushing yards per game (153.8), trailing only Smith (178.3) and Arkansas’ Darren McFadden (164.3). To put his performance in perspective, Jarvis’ 153.8 yards per game would be tied for 58th nationally in team rushing, ahead of 61 other entire squads.

With the fifth-best single game performance in Kent State history, Jarvis’ recorded his fifth straight 100-yard game against the Bobcats, tying Don Fitzgerald’s school record. He also posted his fourth straight two-touchdown performance, giving him nine on the year, which is good for a tie for ninth in the country in scoring (10.8 ppg).

Kent State (3-2, 1-1 MAC) returns to Dix Stadium this Saturday (Oct. 6) to host Miami (2-3, 1-0 MAC) in a Homecoming contest beginning at 3:00 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Net Ohio.
