KENT, Ohio — The Kent State University Department of Athletics announced Wednesday (July 22) the addition of Sheila Blackman as an assistant director of athletic communications.

Blackman will serve as the media liaison for the Kent State women’s basketball and women’s soccer programs as well as spearheading the Golden Flashes’ upcoming transition from printed media guides to more of a digital focus.

“We are extremely excited to have Sheila join the Kent State family,” said KSU Director of Athletic Communications Alan Ashby. “Her passion, enthusiasm, knowledge and background in the profession made her a natural choice for the position and a great addition to the department.”

Blackman arrives at Kent State following an 11-year stint at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay, where she served as the assistant sports information director. While there, Blackman covered the nationally-ranked women’s basketball program while also working with men’s and women’s soccer, among other sports.

During her tenure at Green Bay, Blackman was the coordinator of multiple successful Academic All-America campaigns as nine UW-Green Bay student-athletes were honored as CoSIDA Academic All-Americans under her watch.

Blackman has volunteered at various prominent sporting events, including the 2005 NCAA Women’s Basketball Final Four, the 2000 NCAA Men’s Basketball Final Four and the 2004 PGA Championship at Whistling Straits in Kohler, Wis.

A 1998 graduate of UW-Green Bay, Blackman was a four-year starter for the Phoenix women’s soccer team. She graduated from UW-Green Bay with a bachelor’s degree in communication processes.

The 33-year-old Blackman resides in Ravenna with her husband, Seth, and sons, Joshua and Isaac.
