CLEVELAND — Kent State junior middle linebacker Cobrani Mixon (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) was named the East Division Defensive Player of the Week by the Mid-American Conference on Monday.
Mixon led Kent State with a game-high 12 tackles, including seven solo, in the Flashes’ season-opening 18-0 win over Coastal Carolina last Thursday (Sept. 3). It was the Flashes first shutout since the 1994 season as the defense limited Coastal to only 185 net yards of offense. Mixon added a tackle for loss and one pass breakup, in addition to aiding the Flashes opening score by forcing a Coastal Carolina running back into the arms of teammate Kevin Hogan for a safety.
The Golden Flashes play at Boston College Saturday (Sept. 12) at 2:00 p.m. in a contest that will air on ESPN360.com. KSU is next home Sept. 19 against Iowa State. Call (330) 672-2244 for ticket information.
