Salerno Tabbed MAC Player of the Week for Women’s Soccer

KENT, Ohio - Vanessa Salerno (Etobicoke, Ontario), a sophomore defender on the Kent State women's soccer team, was named the Mid-American Conference Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Salerno aided Kent State in going 2-0-0 in a pair of neutral field victories as the Golden Flashes posted the best record at the four-team UNM Nike Invitational, hosted by the University of New Mexico.
Salerno came off the bench to score her first collegiate goal Sept. 13 against CS Northridge, converting in overtime on an unassisted strike to give Kent State a 1-0 win over the Matadors.
As a defender, Salerno aided Kent State in posting a 0.49 GAA on the week thanks to the team's shutout against CS Northridge, the second shutout in three outings for the Flashes.
Kent State (4-2-0) is back in action Friday, Sept. 18 when the Golden Flashes host unbeaten Michigan State (4-0-1) at 4 p.m. at the KSU Soccer Field. MAC action begins Friday, Sept. 25 at home against Ball State.
