Kent State off to 1-0 start in the MAC

After just one game in the past 16 days, the Golden Flashes will be in action twice this weekend against conference foes as they travel to Central Michigan on Friday and host Ohio on Sunday. Kent State has started off 1-0 in the MAC play following last Friday’s 6-3 win at Missouri State.

It was a day of firsts for a couple of Golden Flashes in the MAC opener last week.  Recording both their first career goals and assists were sophomore Amanda Hoffman (Allentown, Pa. / William Allen) and freshman Ashley Espy (Fort Worth, Tex. / Country Day) .  The duo helped boost a well balanced offensive attack as four different players scored goals in the game for Kent State for the second time this season.

Sophomore Debbie Bell (Hamilton, New Zealand / Waikato) upped her MAC lead goal total to 11 this season by adding three scores, including the game winner.  The performance marked the second hat trick of the year for Bell who is tied for ninth nationally in goals scored.  She has now found the back of the cage in four straight and six of the nine games.

Scouting Central Michigan:
Central Michigan enters this Friday’s match-up with a 1-2 league record and a 3-5 overall mark.  The Chippewas split a pair of games at home against Ball State (W, 4-1) and Miami (L, 2-1 OT) last weekend and also fell at Miami 3-1 on Sept. 11.  Picked to finish fourth in the Preseason MAC Coaches Poll, CMU has been led by Kelly Jordan (four goals; five assists) and Lauren Leed  (four goals) this season.

Kent State swept all three meetings against the two schools last season and has a 40-13 all-time advantage in the series.

The game is scheduled for a 2:00 pm start time.  Live stats will be available through the Central Michigan web site by clicking HERE

Scouting Ohio:
The Bobcats are 2-6 on the year, including three losses against ranked opponents.  Ohio, which will play at Central Michigan on Saturday, dropped its MAC opener last weekend with a 3-2 overtime loss at Missouri State.  Katherine Ballard leads the team with three goals scored while Marcy Dull has two goals and two assists.

Kent State and Ohio last met in the 2008 MAC Championship when the Golden Flashes posted a 1-0 victory at Murphy-Mellis field to win their ninth league title.  KSU lead the all-time series 39-21-1, but the teams have split the two regular season meetings each of the past three years.

The game will get underway at 1:00 pm on Sunday.  Live stats will be available through the Kent State web site by clicking HERE
