Brett Cairns was named the MAC GOW after earning a share of the Windon Memorial on Monday

Kent State junior earned his first collegiate title at the Windon Memorial

CLEVELAND, Ohio — Following his first collegiate title on Monday, Kent State men’s golfer Brett Cairns (Courtland, Ontario / Holy Trinity) was named the Mid-American Conference Men’s Golfer of the Week in an official announcement made by the league office on Wednesday (Oct.7) afternoon. 

Cairns’ medalist honors helped lead the Golden Flashes to a third place finish at the Windon Memorial Classic.  Tied for fifth heading into Monday’s final 18, the KSU junior made par or birdie on his first 14 holes of the day to move a top the leader board.  Cairns finished the tournament that was comprised of five squads in Golfstat.com’s top-25 and eight in the top-40 with a one-over 214 (74-71-69). 

He now has a pair of top five finishes in three events this fall.  It was the first Fall season tournament win for a Golden Flash golfer since current Canadian Tour Pro Ryan Yip won the Notre Dame Invitational in 2004.
  
Kent State is idle this weekend before traveling to Tennessee for the Bank of Tennessee at the Ridges Oct. 16-18.
