KENT, Ohio — After a 2-0 performance last week by the Kent State field hockey team junior Rachel Miller (Bathurst, Australia / MacKillop College) and junior Caroline Suitch (Mountain Top, Pa. / Crestwood) were recognized with weekly honors for the second time this season on Tuesday. Miller was named to the Womensfieldhockey.com weekly honor roll while Suitch was tabbed the Mid-American Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week.
Miller has been the catalyst for the Golden Flashes offense of late, recording a point in each of the last eight games. Last week she assisted on the game winner in a 1-0 win at Michigan, then added two goals in a 5-2 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday. For the year she is tied for third in the MAC with eight assists and fourth with 10 goals. She is the only player in the league ranked top five in both categories. Her 28 points also place her third in the MAC this season.
Suitch posted her first shutout of the season with the win at Michigan on Wednesday. The victory also marked the seventh road win of the year for KSU, giving the program its most road wins since the 2000 season. Suitch made four saves in the game, including a key stop on Michigan’s leading scorer with less than two minutes remaining. On Saturday she led Kent State to another MAC win by making four saves in the Central Michigan win.
The Golden Flashes host Miami on Saturday at 11:00 am and Ball State on Sunday at 1:00 pm in their final two regular season games of the season.
