2008 MAC Defensive Player of the Year taken in the second round

KENT, Ohio – Former Kent State men’s basketball standout, Haminn Quaintance (2006-08) was taken by the Reno Bighorns in the second round of the NBA D-League draft on Thursday (Nov. 5) night.   After leading the Golden Flashes to the NCAA Tournament in 2008, ‘Q’ spent last season playing in the Israel-Premier League.

The 2008 Mid-American Conference Defensive Player of the Year, he was the 26th overall pick in the draft, and the second selection made by Reno.  ‘Q’ played in 13 games last year for Bnei Hasharon and Eroni star Kiryat Ata  he produced 9.7 ppg, 8.8 rpg, 2.2 apg, 2.0 spg.

He ended his collegiate career as the only Division I player in NCAA history with career totals of 1,300 points (1,354) – 900 rebounds (904) – 250 assists (294) – 250 blocks (267) – 200 steals (220).

Another member of the 2008 MAC Championship team, Rashad Woods, was also selected in the draft.  Woods was taken in the seventh round by the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.

Complete rosters for each of the 16 2009-10 NBA D-League teams will be comprised of the eight players drafted on Thursday along with seven returning, allocation, and local tryout players. Rosters will be reduced to 12 players on Nov. 18 and opening-day 10-man rosters must be set by Nov. 25 in anticipation of the Nov. 27 tip off of the NBA D-League’s ninth season. Each team will play one preseason game between Nov. 19 and 25. 

The NBA Development League, founded in 2001, is the NBA’s official minor league whose teams have direct affiliations to NBA franchises. For the 2009-10 season, the league will feature 16 teams – including the debut of the Maine Red Claws and the Springfield Armor.
