Redshirt sophomore Dustin Kilgore (Berea, Ohio/Berea) has been named Kent State Athlete of the Week for his success this weekend at the annual Oklahoma Gold Tournament. The Golden Flashes wrestling team took fifth overall.
Kilgore was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler after pinning three opponents and upsetting No. 1 ranked Mike Pucillo of Ohio State 5-2 in the finals. Despite taking on the 2008 national champion and three-time All-American, Kilgore dominated his final match according to head coach Jim Andrassy.
"He man-handled him and controlled the whole match," Andrassy said. "You can see Dustin's maturity out there. He's really come a long way since last year."
In other action, fifth-year senior Danny Mitcheff also claimed the 133-pound championship.
Kent State returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Ithaca, N.Y. for the second-straight weekend to take part in the Body Bar Invite.
