The Game
Kent State (4-2; 0-0) continues a seven out of eight game road swing on Sunday as the team travels south to face Morehead State (1-2; 0-0) in a rematch of last season’s BracketBuster match-up.  The Golden Flashes are looking to recover from a 76-54 loss at South Florida on Wednesday.

Going up against a 6-10 and 6-11 USF front line, sophomore forward Justin Greene led KSU with 13 points and six rebounds in the loss.  Through the first six games, Greene is second on the team with 12.3 ppg and has already surpassed his season point total (67) from a year ago.  He is the only player to lead the Golden Flashes in scoring twice this season.

After ranking last in the Mid-American Conference in defensive rebounding last season, the Golden Flashes have a +4.8 edge (38.0-33.2) edge on the glass this season.  Kent State is averaging 20.5 offensive rebounds the last two games and has a +7.3 ppg advantage in second chance points on the year.

Redshirt junior guard Rodriquez Sherman, extended his streak to five straight games in double figures with 11 points on Wednesday night.  Sherman, who missed last year while recovering from knee surgery, had just six double figure games in all of 2007-08.  The Golden Flashes leading scorer with 14.2 ppg, Sherman averaged just 5.5 ppg through his first two seasons combined.

Morehead State is coming off a 74-73 last second loss to Louisiana-Monore last Saturday.  Kenneth Faried, who had 17 points and 12 rebounds in last year’s meeting with KSU, leads the defending Ohio Valley Conference Tournament champions with 21.7 points and 11.3 rebounds per game.

Next Up For Kent State
Kent State travels to Xavier on Friday for a 7:30 pm Fox Sports Ohio contest.

Quick Flashes

  • Kent State has had more second chance points in the opposition in four straight and five of the six games this season.
  • Kent State has had five different players led the team in scoring this season.
  • A win would give Head Coach Geno Ford 75 victories in his coaching career.
  • This is the Golden Flashes first game in the state of Kentucky since an opening round 2005 N.I.T. game at Western Kentucky.
  • Frank Henry-Ala leads Kent State with 12 steals (2.0 spg) after recording just 10 all of last season.
  • Rodriquez Sherman, Justin Greene and Tyree Evans are the only three KSU players to start all six games this year.

If the Knee Bone is Connected to the Leg Bone ... What is a Meniscus?

  • A meniscus is a C-shaped piece of cartilage in each of the knee joints.  They curve around the inside and outside of the knee to stabilize and cushion the joint.
  • Torn menisci have been the toughest opponent Kent State has faces this season.  On Nov. 15 vs Green Bay, senior guard Chris Singletary torn a meniscus in his knee.  After surgery on Nov. 20, Singletary is now rehabbing and expected to miss 2-4 weeks.
  • On Nov. 25 at USF, freshman guard Randal Holt left the game after injuring his meniscus.  Holt will have a MRI done in the next few days and is expected to have surgery sometime next week.  He too is expected to miss 2-4 weeks.
