After missing the better part of four games in 2008 with a sprained ankle, Eugene Jarvis will look to regain the form that made him one of the nation's top rushers in 2007...a dynamic player, the staff is looking for him to also contribute as a punt returner to shore up one of the team's big weaknesses from last year.
Career One of college football's most potent offensive threats and a major weapon both rushing and catching the ball...just the fourth player in Kent State's 87-year football history to go over the 3,000-yard rushing mark...his 3,268 rushing yards rank fourth in school annals and place him second among FBS active career leaders heading into the 2009 season (Damion Fletcher, Southern Miss - 4,287 yards)...ranks prominently in four other major offensive categories, including third in all-purpose yards (4,025), fourth in attempts (629), seventh in rushing touchdowns (22) and ninth in total touchdowns (26)...156 points is just two shy of ninth place...has compiled 16 100-yard rushing games during his career. 2008 Junior Season Earned second team All-MAC accolades and was a second team All-MAC selection by Phil Steele's Magazine...battled a nagging sprained ankle to finish year with 801 rushing yards and nine touchdowns on 165 attempts...ranked fifth in the MAC in rushing (89.0 ypg) and eighth in scoring (6.9 ppg)...also ranked 41st in the nation in rushing yards per game...caught 25 passes for 273 yards and a score...his 119.3 all-purpose yards ranked 54th nationally...was a team captain...started all nine games he appeared in...posted a season-high 185 rushing yards on 34 carries on Nov. 12 against Temple to pass the 3,000-yard milestone for his career...rumbled for 150 yards on 22 touches and found the end zone twice in win at Buffalo Nov. 28...compiled a school record-tying four touchdowns and piled up 105 rushing yards on 23 carries at Miami Oct. 25...accumulated 199 total yards (139 rushing, 60 receiving) and scored twice at Iowa State Sept. 6...named to the Maxwell & Doak Walker preseason watch lists. 2007 Sophomore Season Earned first team All-MAC honors and was named honorable mention All-American by SI.com and CollegeFootballNews.com...garnered first team Sophomore All-American honors from CollegeFootballNews.com...named team's Outstanding Offensive Player of the Year and garnered the Outstanding Offensive Skill Award...was also one of four recipients (only non-senior) of the Captains Award which is voted on by the players...started at running back in 11 of the team's 12 games, shredding the record books and opposing defenses with a school record 1,669 yards on 279 rushing attempts (6.0 yards per rush)...broke the previous KSU season rushing record set by Eric Wilkerson in 1988 by more than 300 yards, setting the mark with a 16-yard burst in the second quarter at Northern Illinois on Nov. 10...led the MAC and was fifth in the nation with 139.1 rushing yards per game, which also broke the team record set in 1966 by Don Fitzgerald (124.5)...had a school-record nine 100-yard rushing performances, including five straight to open the season...had the best game of his career at Ohio Sept. 29, rushing 30 times for 230 yards and two touchdowns, the fifth-highest single game total in Kent State history...caught 23 passes and led the team with 306 receiving yards, averaging 13.3 yards per catch...was fourth in the MAC and 16th nationally with 1,975 all-purpose yards, the second highest total in team history (Eric Wilkerson 2,074 yards in 1987)...added 13 touchdowns (10 rushing, three receiving), good for seventh place all time...was second on the team in scoring with 78 points, good for 10th all time...was 10th in the league in scoring with 6.5 points per game...had the second-most rushing attempts all-time in KSU history behind Fitzgerald...had a career-high 67-yard rush against the Huskies...also had a career-long 42-yard touchdown catch against Delaware State Sept. 15...was a game captain against Bowling Green and at Temple. 2006 Redshirt Freshman Season Started at running back in 11 of 12 games...garnered team's Offensive Rookie of the Year Award and shared the Matt Ramser Award with David Filippi recognizing the greatest improvement in spring drills...led the club in rushing, gaining 883 total yards with three touchdowns...boasted an average of 72.5 yards per game on the ground, which was good for sixth in the MAC...also caught 16 passes for 126 yards...tied for fourth on the team with 18 points scored...had 100-yard games on Aug. 31 vs. Minnesota (109), Oct. 14 vs. Toledo (179) and Nov. 17 against Eastern Michigan (155)...had a career afternoon in Homecoming game against Toledo, rushing 31 times for 179 yards and three touchdowns - the highest rushing yardage output for a Kent State back in nine seasons. 2005 Freshman Season Redshirted.
Prior to Kent State Two-time Pittsburgh Post Gazette "Player of the Year" at Central Catholic High School...also a two-time first team all-conference and all-state selection...rushed for 2,196 yards and 38 touchdowns as a senior, leading Vikings to the PIAA Class AAAA state championship...totaled over 4,300 yards rushing in his career...twice named WPIAL Player of the Year...earned three letters in football, scoring 77 touchdowns in his last two years...was coached by Art Walker Jr. Personal Born Oct. 1, 1987...son of Ms. Lela Leonard...majoring in sports administration.
