KENT, Ohio — Kent State fifth-year senior defensive tackle Sam Frist heads up eight Golden Flashes honored by Phil Steele’s in the nationally renowned publication’s recently released Preseason All-MAC Team.

A Southern Pines, N.C. native, Frist was KSU’s lone first team honoree. Fifth-year senior running back Eugene Jarvis (Pittsburgh, Pa.) and junior linebacker Cobrani Mixon (Cincinnati, Ohio) were both named to the second team, while senior defensive end Kevin Hogan (Chardon, Ohio) was a third team honoree. Meanwhile, junior athlete Anthony Bowman (Detroit, Mich.), senior defensive tackle Aaron Hull (Goldvein, Va.), junior free safety Brian Lainhart (Cincinnati, Ohio) and junior offensive lineman Pat Reedy (Youngstown, Ohio) were each honorable mention selections.

Kent State begins the 2009 season Thursday, Sept. 3 against Coastal Carolina at 7:00 p.m. in Dix Stadium. The Golden Flashes will have to replace three starters on offense and four from defense under sixth-year head coach Doug Martin.
