The Kent State Golden Flashes football team was held to a season low 124 total yards of offense and the nation's fifth leading rusher going into the game was held to a season low 57 yards on 13 carries as the Golden Flashes fell to the Temple Owls 24-14 on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The game marked the first time the two schools have met as members of the Mid-American Conference. Last season was the first time the schools played each other, with Kent State defeating the Owls 28-17.

Sophomore quarterback Jon Brown completed 10 of 13 after missing on his first two attempts of the game. Brown, who was making his first start since 2005 and second in his career, finished the game 11 of 27 for 76 yards and threw 4 interceptions.

Kent State started the scoring in the first half as Eugene Jarvis broke to the outside and ran in for a 21-yard touchdown run with 6:37 remaining in the second quarter. Temple’s Jake Brownell answered with a 27 yard field goal after Temple couldn’t take advantage of a punt return that set the Owls up at Kent State’s 10 yard line.

Temple came out in the second and Brownell tacked on a second field goal on the opening drive of the second half to cut the Golden Flash lead to one. Kent State opened their lead back up when on fourth and fifteen Kevin Hogan broke through the line and blocked a punt in the end zone that was recovered by sophomore wide receiver Coleman Lynn for a touchdown. The Kent State offense couldn’t get in a flow and was shut out the rest of the game while the Owls offense caught fire rushing for 140 yards and controlled the clock for 22:11 of 30 minutes in the second half and turning Kent State’s mistakes into 18 unanswered points to put the Golden Flashes away.

The Kent State defense was led by Colin Ferrell who recorded six tackles including 3 tackles for loss and one sack. Ferrell now has 41 tackles for losses and passed Tony Stephens for fifth and is now only one behind James Harrison for fourth on the career tackles for loss list in school history. Derek Burrell also posted his third straight game with double-digit tackles, making 11 stops to match Rico Murray for team honors.

Kent State is back in action to wrap up the 2007 season at home against Buffalo, Saturday, November 24 at 1 p.m.
