Summer 2008:
Earned Cape Cod League Player of the Week honors pitching with the
Orleans Cardinals...posted three wins and 26 strikeouts in eight
appearances.
2008:
Earned All-MAC First Team honors...his nine wins was a team high...his
65 strikeouts was the second highest for Kent State pitchers...struck
out eight or more batters twice...won four straight starts from March
30 to April 20...pitched eight innings, scattering four hits and giving
up just one earned run while striking out eight in a win vs. Bowling
Green (4/20)...won his only start of the MAC-Tournament, pitching 5.1
innings and striking out four vs. Northern Illinois (5/22).
Summer 2007: Threw for the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.
2007: Appeared
in 15 games, earning 14 starts...threw the second-most innings on the
team (70.1)...allowed 30 runs and 63 hits for a 3.84 ERA...led the team
with 44 strike outs...gave up two hits and no runs in five innings and
won his first collegiate start against Florida (2/25)...allowed one
walk and no runs or hits in his second collegiate win against Indiana
State (3/10)...recorded a win in the third game of the MAC Tournament
against Eastern Michigan (5/25), allowing one run and five hits over
eight innings...in the MAC tournament against Miami (5/24), gave up
three earned runs over five innings for a no decision...named to the
MAC All-Tournament Team.
High School:
Earned three varsity letters at Louisville... Played on two
Northeastern Buckeye Conference championship teams... Earned first team
all-conference honors as a junior and senior... Named honorable mention
all-state... Posted a career record of 17-3 with four saves, 220
strikeouts and a 2.24 ERA... Earned two varsity letters in both
football and golf and three letters in basketball.
Personal:
Born Sept. 5, 1987... Is the son of Brian and Mary Smith... Has an
older brother, Matt... Is majoring in secondary education at Kent State.
