The Game

Kent State (3-1; 0-0) returns to the M.A.C. Center to face Rochester College [Mich.] as part of the final game of the Hispanic College Fund Classic on Sunday night.  The Golden Flashes turned in their best defensive effort of the year as they picked up their third win of the season with a 70-61 victory at Youngstown State on Wednesday.  Kent State held YSU without a field goal for over an eight minute stretch while swiping 12 steals and forcing a season high 19 turnovers.  Senior guard Tyree Evans, who is shooting 48 percent (12-25) from three through the first four game continued his hot hand totaling a game high 18 points on 7-10 shooting (4-5 from three).

Sophomore forward Justin Greene followed up his career high 20-point performance vs Green Bay last Sunday with a 17 point, five rebound effort against Youngstown State.  In his last two games he is averaging 18.5 points and shooting 57 percent from the field.  Even more impressive has been Greene’s improvement from the foul line where he is shooting 68.2 percent (15-22) this year after making just 25 percent (3-12) last season.  The reigning MAC East Player of the Week,  Rodriquez Sherman, is a strong candidate to win  the award again this week after loading up the stat sheet with 15 points, five rebounds, five assists and three steals.  Sherman currently leads the team in points (14.8 ppg), rebounds (5.5 rpg), assists (3.8) and steals (1.8 spg)

Rochester had compiled a 6-4 record heading into Saturday’s game at Oakland.  Center Ricky Doran led the team with 15 points and six rebounds in the Warrior’s other Hispanic College Fund Classic game against Green Bay last Monday.
