Justin Greene, Men's Basketball
Senior men's basketball forward Justin Greene has been named the Kent State Student-Athlete of the Week.
Greene averaged 17.5 points and 7.5 rebounds in a pair of wins for Kent State last week as the Golden Flashes extended their winning streak to 30 straight against Mid-American Conference West Division opponents. In the process, Greene became the first player in league history to never lose a cross-divisional match-up. The 2011 MAC Player of the Year began the week with 17 points, six rebounds and three steals in a 62-58 win at Eastern Michigan last Wednesday (Feb. 8). He followed that performance up with an 18-point, nine-rebound outing in a 76-55 win over Ball State Saturday (Feb. 11) at the MA.C. Center. Against the Cardinals, Greene had 10 of the Golden Flashes' first 19 points in the opening 12 minutes of the game. Behind Greene's effort Kent State had a 26-4 edge in points in the paint in the first half as they built up a 14-point lead and didn't look back. A 6'8" senior forward, Greene ranks second in the league during conference games with 16.1 points per game and third with a 56% field goal percentage. He has had double digits in 12 straight games and is the only active player in the MAC to reach 1,000 points, 100 blocks and 100 steals in a career.
Kent State returns to East Division competition on Tuesday by hosting Buffalo. Game time is 7:00 pm and will be broadcast live on SportsTime Ohio. Follow the action on the radio at WNIR 100.1 FM or listen online at www.kentstatesports.com.
