Kelly Sherwood, Soccer

Senior soccer goalie Kelly Sherwood (Strongsville, Ohio) has been named the Kent State Student-Athlete of the Week.

Sherwood anchored Kent State during a critical 2-0 weekend in Mid-American Conference play, posting a pair of shutouts which vaulted the Golden Flashes to the MAC East Division title and assured the team of a home game in the first round of the 2011 MAC Women's Soccer Tournament. Sherwood made four saves to aid Kent State in a 2-0 victory last Friday (Oct. 21) over Akron. Two days later against Ohio, Sherwood extended her shutout streak to over 280 minutes with Kent State's 1-0 victory. It was her third consecutive shutout and seventh of the season; her season shutout mark ties the team record set back in 1998.

Kent State will wrap up regular season action Thursday (Oct. 27) at Buffalo for a 3 p.m. contest. Guaranteed a top-four finish in the MAC standings, the Golden Flashes will host a quarterfinal game of the 2011 MAC Women's Soccer Tournament Sunday, Oct. 30 at Zoeller Field with a game time and opponent yet to be determined.
