Tyler Small, Wrestling
Kent State sophomore 141-pound wrestler Tyler Small (Littlestown, Pa.) has been named the Kent State Student-Athlete of the Week.
Small captured the 2012 Mid-American Conference title in his weight class by blanking Northern Illinois' Kevin Fanta 6-0 in his final, countering a pair of Fanta's shots for takedowns Sunday (March 4) at the conference championships at the Convocation Center in Athens, Ohio. In the semifinals, Small avenged an earlier season loss to Ohio's Darrin Boing. Small grabbed an opening period takedown and claimed a riding time point in a 3-0 victory.
Small, along with senior Brendan Barlow (Westerville, Ohio), junior Keith Witt (Oak Harbor, Ohio), freshman Ian Miller (Oak Harbor, Ohio) and senior Nic Bedelyon (Lewistown, Pa.), will compete at the NCAA Championships March 15-17 in St. Louis.
