Dr. William
Pakan is an Orthopaedic Surgeon for Kent State University
athletics. Dr. Pakan is certified by the American Board of
Orthopaedic Surgery and specializes in sports medicine and
arthoscopic surgery. He is a former football player and graduate of
Kent State University and a 1985 graduate of Northeastern Ohio
Universities College of Medicine. He completed his residency and
fellowship in sports medicine at the University of Kentucky. Dr.
Pakan specializes in general orthopaedics with a special interest
in sports medicine.
Dr. Pakan is active in both clinical education and classroom
presentations for the Athletic Training Education Program.
Dr. Pakan is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic
Surgeons.

Kyle Nelman, M.D., is one of two
orthopaedic surgeons for Kent State University athletics.
Nelman is a fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon
for Kent State University Athletics, specializing in sports
medicine, arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder and knee, as well as
total joint replacement. A native of Northeast Ohio, Dr. Nelman
played basketball at Otterbein College, where he received his
undergraduate degree. He went on to earn his medical degree from
the University of Cincinnati in 2005, then returned to Akron where
he completed his residency in orthopaedics at Summa Health System.
Following residency, Dr. Nelman participated in a one-year
fellowship in sports medicine at the Sports Clinic in Laguna Hills,
Calif., before returning home and joining Crystal Clinic
Orthopaedic Center.

Robert Crawford,
M.D. grew up in the Wadsworth area and has been
a Primary Care Physician in the Wadsworth area since 1992. He
graduated from Wadsworth Senior High, The University of Akron and
The Medical College of Ohio at Toledo. He has been able to
serve as the Team Physician for soccer, football, volleyball,
basketball, wrestling, softball and baseball for Wadsworth High
School and Fairless Local Schools. He is a Board Certified in
Family Practice and currently has a part time office in Cuyahoga
Falls. He is also a fellow at The Summa Center for Sports
Health to better serve athletes at all levels form youth to
professional. |

Dr. Nilesh Shah obtained his medical degree
from The Ohio State University College of Medicine and Public
Health in 1998. He completed his family practice residency at
Grant Medical center and a sports medicine fellowship at The Ohio
State University. Since 2002, Dr. Shah has been practicing in
Akron, Ohio, specializing in the treatment of musculoskeletal
injuries.
Currently he is a partner at Summa Orthopaedics and Sports
Medicine and the Medical Director for the Summa Center for Sports
Health. He is board certified in family practice and
possesses a certificate of added qualification in sports
medicine.
In addition to being Team Physician for Kent State University,
Dr. Shah is the team physician for the Akron Aeros, Kent Roosevelt
High School, and Extreme Team of Northeast Ohio. He cares for
many other teams and is the Medical Director for the Akron Marathon
and was formerly the Medical Director for the LeBron James King for
Kids Bike-a-thon. An avid runner, Dr. Shah has completed over
15 marathons and a half-ironman triathlon.

Trevor Bullock,
DO earned his medical degree from the Ohio University
College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed his family medicine
residency at Summa Akron City Hospital. He was fellowship
trained in sports medicine at the Toledo Hospital/University of
Toledo and currently practices sports and family medicine in
Cuyahoga Falls and Akron, OH. He has extensive training in
osteopathic manipulation and musculoskeletal ultrasound procedures.
He is also a former football athlete for Ohio University.

Dr. Gregory Cain
received his bachelors degree in Chemistry from Pacific Lutheran
University and graduated from the University of Washington School
of Medicine. He completed a pediatric residency at Madigan Army
Medical Center, is board certified in Pediatrics and a fellow of
the American Academy of Pediatrics. Dr. Cain is currently
participating in the Sports Medicine Fellowship at Summa Health
System. Prior to coming to Akron Dr. Cain was actively involved
with the care of high school and college athletes in Tacoma,
Washington where he served as team physician for Life Christian
Academy and his alma mater Pacific Lutheran University. Dr.
Cain has a keen interest and broad experience in the management of
sports concussion. He participated in the development of and
testified before his state legislature (Wash.) in support of the
Zackery Lystedt law—the law that has served as a model and
catalyst for similar youth concussion laws across the nation.
Dr. Cain’s interests are competitive
water-skiing, snow skiing, running and cycling.

Omar Naji, MD is
a sports medicine fellow at the Summa Health Sports Medicine
Fellowship in Akron, OH where he serves as the team physician for
Springfield High School. Along with his colleagues at Summa,
he is also a team physician at Kent State University, and covers
mass events in the Akron area. Dr. Naji completed a residency
in Family Medicine at Memorial Medical Center in Las Cruces, New
Mexico, where he served as the chair of the IRB as well as the New
Mexico Resident Delegate to the AAFP. He earned his medical
degree from American University of the Caribbean School of
Medicine, where studied in St. Maarten, London, and New York
City. His sports medicine interests include nutrition and
weight loss, mass event coverage, and dive medicine. His
other interest include international medicine, travel, photography,
Forumula 1 racing, and SCUBA diving.
