Kent State’s Seabeck Named to National Collegiate Advisory Board for Career Athletes
Seabeck joins inaugural nine-person panel to help advance career education and professional networking for collegiate student-athletes
OLATHE, Kan. – Angie Seabeck, the Director of Student-Athlete Development at Kent State University, has been named to the first-ever National Collegiate Advisory Board, established by Career Athletes.
Seabeck is one of nine representatives from NCAA Division I athletic departments across the country that will facilitate various services and idea generation to help student-athletes prepare for success in professional careers.
The board’s mission will be to advance innovative software, creative ideas, and university partnerships to ultimately progress career education and professional networking for current and former collegiate athletes.
“Essentially, we are progressing the student-athlete experience by the way career development is viewed and embraced in collegiate athletics,” said DJ Washington, Vice President of Training and Development at Career Athletes.
“Student-athletes experience the pressure to win both in the classroom and in competition. Unfortunately, the same pressure is nonexistent when it comes to career-readiness - perhaps the most important thing,” explained Washington. “We have gathered the most respected and forward-thinking athletic administrators around the country that are committed to finding the solution.”
At Kent State, Seabeck is responsible for life skills coordination and programming and also is the faculty advisor for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). In her fifth year with the Golden Flashes athletic department, Seabeck also is the director of the student-athlete leadership academy and teaches two courses at Kent State geared toward student-athlete orientation and post-graduate success.
