Lou Holtz Becomes a Successful College Football Coach

The former KSU linebacker and 1959 graduate experienced even more success watching from the sideline. He made several stops throughout his career including Iowa, South Carolina, Ohio State, Arkansas and Minnesota.

Holtz’s most successful job was at Notre Dame. From 1986 to 1996, he patrolled the sidelines in South Bend. He went 100-32-2 and guided the team to the 1988 National Championship. He holds the school record for most games coached and is second behind Knute Rockne for number of wins.

After retiring in 2004, he became a college football analyst for ESPN and was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2008.
