No. 21 Gymnastics Takes Down NC State Sunday at the M.A.C. Center

KENT, Ohio – Kent State's gymnastics team defeated North Carolina State 195.400-194.150 Sunday, January 19 in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation (M.A.C.) Center as part of the second annual Beauty and the Beast.
With their new season-high of 195.400, Kent State improved to 4-1 overall and 1-0 in the MAC as North Carolina State fell to 2-3 overall.
"NC State is such a quality program, we knew we needed a good effort and I am proud of our team for bouncing back" head coach Brice Biggin stated "our team put together a great performance."
Senior Marie Case finished second in the all-around competition (39.275) for the Flashes. Case took first in the floor exercise with a score of 9.900, tied for first in the uneven parallel bars (9.800) and tied for second on balance beam (9.825) while she tied for third on the vault, 9.850.
Freshmen Olivia Trout and Samantha Gordon both tied for second in the floor exercise with new personal bests, of 9.825 on their routineson the floor. Trout tied Case for second on the balance beam with a score of 9.825.
Junior Amiah Mims and sophomore Jaymi Baxter tied Case for third on the vault with a score of 9.850.
The Golden Flashes come within one matchup with the Wolfpack, as NC State now leads the all-time series 6-5 after today's Kent State win.
On the other side of the Beauty and the Beast event, the wrestling team defeated NC State 23-14.
"We had girls step up and fill in where we needed them to and beat a really good team." Biggin's added. "This is a great experience for the fans and a really neat event to put on here with both the wrestling team competing with us in the M.A.C."
No 21 Gymnastics travels to Western Michigan Friday, January 24 at 7 pm in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
