Kent State's Track and Field Programs send seven athletes to compete at the NCAA Division I Outdoor National Championships this week, Wed., June 11-Sat., June 14 in Eugene, Oregon.
Junior Roseanne Erickson will compete in the long jump as she advanced out of the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, Fla. with a seventh place finish at 6.25m (20' 6.25").
Junior Miles Dunlap will look to the 400-meter hurdles after high 12th place finish, 51.4, at the NCAA East Reigon Preliminary Round. Dunlap qualified for the semi-finals of the 400m hurdles at the prelims with a time of 52.04 in the first round.
Junior Matthias Tayala, the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association's (USTFCCCA) Great Lakes Regional Men's Field Athlete of the Year, heads to the championships after a second place at the East Region Prelims with a mark of 69.24m (227' 2").
Sophomore Danniel Thomas and Senior Joh'Vonnie Mosley both will compete in the Discus and Shot Put at the championships this week. Thomas finished fifth in the discus (55.94m – 183' 6") and 11th in the shot put (16.39m – 53' 9.25") at the preliminary round as Mosley finished 11th in discus (53.42m – 175' 3") and 12th in the shot put (16.34m – 53' 7.5").
Sophomore Reggie Jagers advanced to the Championships in the men's discus with a 10th place finish of 57.89m (189' 11") at the East Regionals.
Sophomore Dior Delophont heads to Eugene after she tied for 11th in the high jump at the preliminary round (1.77m – 5' 9.75") and took first in the jump off at 1.79m (5' 10.5").
On Monday, along with Tayala, the USTFCCCA recognized director of Track and Field Coach Bill Lawson as the Women's Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year. Lawson's team picked up their fifth straight outdoor Mid-American Conference title and seventh straight MAC Title, on May 17 in Athens, Ohio.
Kent State had six champions on the women's side under Coach Lawson – Dior Delophont (High Jump/Triple Jump), Danniel Thomas (Shot Put/Discus), Ann Marie Duffus (100m Hurdles) and Roseanne Erickson (Long Jump). Lawson was also recognized by the MAC as the 2014 MAC Women's Coach of the Year.
Kent State's first athlete, Roseanne Erickson, will compete Wed., June 11 at 4:15 p.m. PDT/7:15 p.m. EDT, as Miles Dunlap takes to the track Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. PDT/9:15 p.m. EDT.
