Gymnastics Hosts Ball State for Senior Day on Sunday

Kent State will host Ball State on Sunday, March 2nd at 2 p.m. in the Memorial Athletic and Convocation Center. The meet is also Senior Day for the Golden Flash senior gymnasts -- Chelsea Drooger, Whitnee Johnson, Kelsey Lawless, Amiah Mims and Nicole Radon, while the team also reconginizes Stephanie Comini who serves as a student assistant.

The Golden Flashes (5-6, 1-3 MAC) are coming off an impressive 195.700-193.725 win over the Colonials from George Washington in the annual Flip for the Cure meet on Sunday, March 1st.
The performance from the team saw Kent State sweep the Mid-American Conference Gymnast and Specialist of the Week honors. Jordan Hardison took the gymnast of the week and Rachel Stypinski was named the Specialist of the week, for her fourth time this year.
Stypinksi had a dominating meet as she came in first place on the beam and the floor. She earned a 9.925 score on the beam and 9.900 on the beam. Nicole Radon finished 2nd on the beam with a performance of 9.775.
Skyelee Lamano finished behind Stypinksi on the floor with a personal best mark of 9.900. Jordan Hardison followed in line with a third place finish with a score of 9.875.
Kent State performed very well on the Uneven Parallel Bars as the Flashes took the top three spots. Ali Marrero took first with a score of 9.825. Brooke Timko finished in second with a 9.750 and Michaela Romito was third with a 9.725.
Leading the way for the Flashes on vault was Chelsea Drooger, who finished second with a score of 9.850.

The Cardinals (3-7, 2-3 MAC) prevailed in their last meet on the road at Illinois State by a score of 194.475 – 193.975.
Kayla Beckler and Denasiha Christian tied for first on the vault with a score of 9.800. Christian also tied for first on the floor with a mark of 9.850.
Brooklyn Schumacher finished second on the bars with a score of 9.825

Kent State owns a 54-16 record all time against Ball State. The last time the Cardinals registered a higher score than the Flashes, dates back to March 23rd, 2002. The Golden Flashes have won the previous 25 meetings, including the regular season win last year, 195.700-193.950, in Muncie. Kent State also scored higher than Ball State in the MAC Championships last season with scores of 195.125 to 193.975.
