Rooney Earns MAC Wrestler of the Week Honors

Kent State sophomore Tim Rooney (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles) was named Mid-American Conference Wrestler of the Week Wednesday after helping the Golden Flashes improve to 5-0 on the season.
Rooney went 5-0 this past weekend at the Journeymen Duals and the Journeymen Classic in upstate New York. Â Kent State defeated Virginia 20-18 and Hofstra 26-12 Saturday with the help of victories from Rooney in each dual.Â
The next day, Rooney placed first in his pool at the Journeymen Classic, going 3-0 with a tech fall. An 11-5 win over Virginia Tech's Andrew Merhholz gave Rooney a 2-0 weekend mark against ACC opponents.Â
On the season, Rooney is 12-1 with two pins, two tech falls and two major decisions. He is 4-0 in dual meets.
The Golden Flashes return to action Saturday, Nov. 18, at the Navy Classic.
