For the first time in program history, Kent State women's basketball has two Academic All-Americans in the same season. Jordan Korinek and Larissa Lurken have been named to the Second Team as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.
The duo joins just 13 other players nationwide to receive the honor. Kent State is the only school in the nation to have two players selected. The last Golden Flash honored as an Academic All-American was Lindsay Shearer in 2006. Korinek and Lurken join just three other players to ever receive the accolade in Kent State history.
Korinek holds a perfect 4.00 cumulative grade point average as a junior special education major. She is averaging 15.7 points and leads the team with a 6.6 rebounding average. Lurken is one of the top players in the nation and has broken numerous Kent State record in her senior season, with more to fall. Her 23.3 points per game is good for 6th in the nation. Lurken is a nursing major with a 3.72 cumulative GPA.
The Golden Flashes have clinched the Mid-American Conference East Division title and at least the four seed in next week's MAC Tournament. The final game of the regular season will be this Saturday at home at 2 p.m. Tickets are available at kentstatesports.com or by calling 330-672-2244.
