Flashes Buck Bulls, Sweep Weekend Series in Dominating Fashion

KENT, Ohio – Kent State (23-19, 9-8 MAC) received an 11-run inning in the second game Saturday's doubleheader in a series sweep over Buffalo (15-26, 6-11 MAC) at the Diamond at Dix. The Golden Flashes won both games in five innings, 10-2, and, 13-1. Kent State outscored the Bulls 33-3 on the weekend and pushed above the .500 mark in conference play. Holly Speers had a huge day at the plate, clubbing three homers.
"We had some great team wins this weekend and all three phases of the game clicked. I'm proud of this team for staying locked in all weekend," said Kent State head coach Eric Oakley. "There were lots of great individual performances, it's tough to pick out just a few, but a great job all around."
Game 1: Kent State 10, Buffalo 2 (5 innings)
The Flashes jumped on the scoreboard with two solo home runs from Emily Dobbin and Speers in the first inning. KSU scored four more in the second as Dobbin hit a two-RBI single and Bailey Brownfield a two-RBI double to lead, 6-0.
Kent State added three more in the third on a bases loaded walk to Speers and another two-RBI double by Bailey Brownfield.
The Bulls struck with a two-run homer to left in the fourth.
Speers hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the fifth, her second of the game, to give Kent State the 10-2 run rule victory.
Madi Huck went the distance and cruised through five innings. She walked one and struck out seven in five innings of work.
All 10 RBIs were recorded by Dobbin (3), Speers (3) and Bailey Brownfield (4).
Game 2: Kent State 13, Buffalo 1 (5 innings)
It was a close, 2-1, Kent State lead entering the bottom of the fourth inning. Bailey Brownfield had an RBI single in the first inning and Speers launched her third dinger of the day.
The bats scored 11 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and the first nine batters reached base in the frame. The inning was highlighted by an Allie Luther two-run homer, an RBI triple by Kaitlyn Miller, a three-RBI double by Speers and a two-RBI double by Brenna Brownfield.
Brenna Brownfield got the win (7-7) tossing four innings and allowing four hits. Huck dealt the final inning of work.
Kent State scored 10 or more runs in three consecutive games for the second time this season.
