HUNTINGTON, W.Va. – The Kent State softball team lost a pair of games on Saturday at the Thundering Herd Round Robin.

The Golden Flashes (4-12) opened the day with an extra innings game, falling to Morehead State 6-5 in nine innings, and then lost to host Marshall, 8-1.

Game 1: Morehead State 6, Kent State 5
Trailing 2-0 and down to their final out, the Golden Flashes rallied for five in the top of the seventh. Julia Mazanec reached on an error and moved to second on a wild pitch before scoring on a double by Bri Despines. Savannah Wing followed with another double to tie it up. A wild pitch and passed ball allowed pinch runner Carley Penner to score the go-ahead run. Delaney Robeson then homered to score Emily Lippe, who reached on a walk, and make it 5-2.

Kent State committed three errors in the bottom of the seventh, as Morehead State tied it up.

The Eagles were able to bring home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth with a sac bunt and groundout.

Seven Flashes recorded a hit in the game. Despines led the way with two hits.

Macy Irelan (1-5) totaled five innings in the circle, striking out two and allowing two earned runs. Anilese Kelly had five strikeouts and did not allow an earned runs in 3.2 innings of relief.

Game 2: Marshall 8, Kent State 1
The Thundering Herd started the bottom of the first inning with two singles and a home run for an early 3-0 lead. Marshall added three more runs in the third.

Julia Mazanec collected an infield single in the top of the sixth. After stealing second and advancing to third on a passed ball, Mazanec scored following a groundout by Brynn Libler to make it 6-1.

Marshall plated two more in the bottom of the sixth.

Morgan Bowers (1-4) had one strikeout in two innings, while Macy Irelan fanned three in four innings.

On Deck for the Flashes
Kent State closes the weekend with two games on Sunday. First pitch against Pitt is scheduled for 10 a.m. with a rematch against Marshall slated for approximately 30 minutes after the end of the opening game.
