2010 Season
•Redshirted due to elbow injury.
2009 Freshman Season
•Named to the Louisville Slugger Freshmen All-American Team.
•Also named ABCA Second Team All-Mideast Region.
•Became only the third KSU player and the first since 1992 to be named Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year.
•Also earned First Team All-MAC honors.
•Finished the season with a 4-1 record, eight saves, a 1.26 ERA and 55 strikeouts
•Won his first collegiate game when he threw two scoreless innings and only allowed one walk while striking out four against UNC Greensboro (2/21).
•Earned the win in his first collegiate start less than a week later against Winthrop (2/27), allowing only three hits and one run while striking out five in five innings pitched.
•Struck out six while allowing one hit in the win against Malone (3/31).
•Recorded a three-inning save against Northern Illinois (4/3), striking out seven of the ten batters he faced.
•For his success against Malone and Northern Illinois, was named MAC East Pitcher of the Week April 6.
•Threw the final 1.2 innings for the save against nationally-ranked Ohio State (4/15).
Prior to Kent State
•Played at Collins Western Reserve High School under coach Scott Emerick.
•Helped lead the Rough Riders to sectional championships in 2005 and ‘06 and a Firelands Conference Championship in 2006.
•Led the team in batting average his junior year while also being named second team all-conference and all-district.
•Had the highest team batting average and broke the school record for singles his sophomore season.
• Coached by Scott Emerick in high school
• Also played for the American Legion Post 83 Baseball Team out of Sandusky
• Team was Black Swamp Champions, District Champions and finished fourth place in the state tournament in 2006.

•Born June 17, 1990.
•Parents are Darryl and Tania Chafin. Siblings are Sarah and Leah.
•Spent time as a volunteer umpire and coach.
•Majoring in technology.
