No. 28 Kent State Baseball Takes On Bowling Green In MAC Tournament First-Round Matchup

KENT, Ohio -- The Kent State baseball team will square off with Bowling Green Wednesday (May 25) in 2011 Mid-American Conference Tournament first-round action at VA Memorial Stadium in Chillicothe, Ohio. First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

Ranked No. 28 in the nation according to the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper, the Golden Flashes (39-14, 21-5 MAC) own the No. 1 seed in the double-elimination tournament after capturing the program's 11th MAC regular season crown and first since 2008. Kent State has won the last two MAC Tournament titles to advance to the NCAA Regional in back-to-back seasons and has appeared in the MAC Championship Game in each of the last five campaigns. The 2011 squad became Kent State's first to win 39 regular season games since the 2000 team achieved the feat. The Flashes come into the tournament having won 30 of their last 35 games and eight of nine MAC series.

The Falcons (20-29, 11-14 MAC) are the tournament's No. 8 seed and finished the regular season third in the MAC East Division. The division rivals squared off two weeks ago (May 13-14) in Bowling Green, Ohio, with Kent State coming away with a two-game sweep after gaining the upper hand in a 17-10 Friday shootout, then blanking the Falcons, 8-0, the following the day. The Sunday game of the series was washed out after it was determined the field was unplayable due to rain.
