Kent State Baseball's Bagoly Named MAC Male Scholar Athlete of the Week

Junior designated hitter drove in seven runs in Kent State's 31-20 victory at Bowling Green.

CLEVELAND -- Kent State junior designated hitter Jason Bagoly (Austintown, Ohio) has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced.

The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.

A finance major carrying a 3.78 grade-point average, Bagoly led Kent State's hit parade Sunday (April 15) at Bowling Green, helping the Golden Flashes end the three-game MAC weekend series on a high note with a 31-20 triumph. Bagoly finished with two doubles, his third home run of 2012 and a single, and his seven RBIs were the most in a game for the Flashes since Anthony Gallas piled up seven at Akron on May 21, 2010. Bagoly is hitting .300 on the season with 21 hits - 10 of which have been for extra bases - while piling up 19 RBIs.

Kent State looks to maintain its hold on first place in the race for the 2012 Mid-American Conference regular season crown as it travels north to face Central Michigan this weekend (April 20-22) in a key interdivision showdown. The Golden Flashes (21-15, 10-2 MAC) have won 13 of their last 17 games and two straight.
