The No. 27-ranked Kent State baseball team has its sights set on a fourth straight Mid-American Conference Tournament crown and 12th NCAA Regional berth as the 2012 double-elimination tournament this week at All Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio.

 

The Golden Flashes (37-17, 24-3 MAC) enter the tournament as the No. 1 seed for the second year in a row and will battle No. 8-seeded Buffalo Wednesday (May 23) at 7:30 p.m. in first-round action. The winner of the matchup will take on the victor of the first-round contest between No. 4-seed Ohio and No. 5-seeded Western Michigan Thursday (May 24) at 4 p.m. The losers of those two opening round games will battle to keep their seasons alive Thursday at 12:30 pm.

Kent State enters the 2012 tournament having won an unprecedented three straight titles and four in the last five years under eighth-year head coach Scott Stricklin and have appeared in the championship game in each of the last six seasons. The Flashes have won the MAC Tournament nine times in the previous 30-year history of the event and own a 50-24 mark in 20 tournament appearances.
