Nix Named To Quartet Of Freshman All-America First Teams
KENT, Ohio -- First the Mid-American Conference took notice, now the country is following suit. Two weeks after being named the MAC Defensive Player of the Year and the Freshman of the Year, Roosevelt Nix (Reynoldsburg, Ohio) was named a first-team Freshman All-American by Sporting News, Rivals.com, Phil Steele and CollegeFootballNews.com.
Nix was the only player on the 26-member first team (offense, defense & special teams) not to hail from a BCS automatic qualifying conference.
The first-team All-MAC defensive tackle led the conference in tackles for loss (20.0) and sacks (10.0), ranking tied for sixth and 11th, respectively, in the country. He also tied for fifth in the nation with four forced fumbles as part of a defense that stood second in the country in tackles for loss, fifth in rushing defense, 11th in sacks and 13th in total defense. He added 43 tackles, eight quarterback hurries and a pair of blocked kicks in his inaugural campaign.
Kent State closed out the 2010 season 5-7 overall and 4-4 in the MAC.
