Mixon Named Defensive Player of the Week
CLEVELAND - Kent State senior middle linebacker Cobrani Mixon (Cincinnati, Ohio) was named Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week Monday following the Golden Flashes’ 28-6 win over Ohio on Nov. 26. Mixon helped get the Flashes on the board first when he forced a fumble that was recovered by teammate Luke Batton in the end zone to give KSU a 7-0 lead in the opening quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Mixon recovered an Ohio fumble at the Bobcat 16 yard line, which led to the Flashes’ final touchdown of the game. In all, Mixon finished with eight tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two pass breakups and a quarterback hurry.
For the second consecutive season, the Kent State defense held Ohio without an offensive touchdown. The Bobcats entered the game with the second best rushing attack in the MAC, but were held to just 50 yards on 37 attempts.
An All-MAC First Team selection in 2009, Mixon totaled 263 tackles and 11.5 sacks in three seasons at Kent State.
The Golden Flashes finished 4-4 in conference play for the second straight season, while their run defense is currently ranked seventh in the nation, allowing 97.2 yards per game.
