Day 5: Flashes Going at Full Speed

Day Five had the Kent State football team in full pads Friday afternoon at Dix Stadium.  With temperatures in the 80s, the Golden Flashes took part in several hard hitting drills as offensive and defensive players could be heard down Summit Street cheering on their side of the ball.

“We’re really focused on team expectations and winning a championship this year,” said MAC Defensive Player of the Year Roosevelt Nix (Reynoldsburg, Ohio).  “There’s a lot of energy, a high tempo and a lot of competition here.”

Nix is one of seven returning defensive linemen that were a part of last season’s regular rotation.  In addition, defensive line coach Brian George noted the early efforts of true freshmen Anthony Pruitt (Columbus, Ohio), Nate Terhune (Chagrin Falls, Ohio) and walk-on Clay Miller.

Linemen will also be a strength on the offensive side with four returning starters.

“You can’t replace game experience,” assistant coach Chris Bache said of his veteran offensive line.  “They’ve been on the field together and they know what it takes.”

Kent State will host its annual Fan Experience Night Wednesday, Aug. 17 from 5-8 p.m. at Dix Stadium and the adjacent Field House. The event is free and open to the public and includes a chance to win the opportunity to call plays at the end of the scrimmage that evening. Kent State Athletics will also be collecting donations to benefit the Alabama Tornado Relief Fund.
