Hollomon Highlights Running Back Depth During Fan Experience Night
Kent State fans knew there would be speed in the backfield this season with the return of senior Jacquise Terry (Phenix City, Ala.) and junior Dri Archer (Laurel, Fla.), but Wednesday night’s Fan Experience at Dix Stadium displayed depth as well. Redshirt freshman Rob Hollomon (Philadelphia, Pa.) broke off the longest run of the night, while 260-pound freshman Trayion Durham (Cincinnati, Ohio) proved to be a legitimate option between the tackles.
“The competition we have here helps us out a lot,” Hollomon said of the team’s many options at running back.
Hollomon noted that his vision gives him an advantage when asked what sets him apart from the other backs on the team. That vision was evident on a 50-yard touchdown run as he bounced to the outside and cut back toward the middle of the field.
“I just wanted to go out there and make a play,” Hollomon said. “I was able to find a little crease. I came in focused and hungry this year.”
Also getting several carries out of the backfield was junior Larry Dawson (Akron, Ohio), who was the team’s leading rusher in the Spring Game.
The Golden Flashes also displayed depth at defensive line Wednesday night. The second-team D-line gave the second-team offense fits with pressure on the quarterback on a number of occasions.
