Field Hockey Kicks Off 2010 Campaign Under The Moonlight
Golden Flashes will get an early start on their quest for a
third straight MAC title
KENT, Ohio – The Kent State field hockey
team is wasting no time in its quest for a third straight
Mid-American Conference title. When the clock strikes
midnight on August 12, the Golden Flashes will take the field
and officially begin the 2010 season with an open practice under
the moonlight.
"Our players have been eagerly awaiting the start of the season
all summer and the midnight practice session is a perfect
opportunity for us to get an early start on the year," said Head
Coach Kathleen (Schanne) Wiler. "Our first game is
August 28 which leaves us just over two weeks to get ready.
We are looking forward to getting to work right away."
The Golden Flashes return 13 letterwinners including eight
starters from a team that went 12-8 and earned a share of the MAC
regular season championship with an 8-2 mark last season.
Kent State won both the regular season and tournament titles in
2008 and will aim for its sixth championship in eight years this
fall.
The team will travel to James Madison the first weekend of the
season to face William and Mary on August 28 and JMU on August
29.
