Johl and Lee Highlight Seven Golden Flashes On Academic All MAC Team

Eighth straight year Kent State has had multiple honorees

KENT, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the 2011 Academic All-MAC Field Hockey selection this afternoon with senior Carla Johl (Hamilton, New Zealand) and sophomore Rebecca Lee (Bathurst, Australia) representing Kent State on the first team.  Five other Golden Flashes received Honorable Mention status.

The duo earned a spot on the 14 member first team after each earned Second Team All-Region and First All-MAC accolades during the regular season.  

Having just completed her final season in a Kent State uniform, Johl is an electronic media production major with a 3.9 GPA.  She has played every minute of every game the past two years.  The versatile defender, scored seven goals this past season, and was at her best when the team needed her most producing a team high three game winning goals.  Two of her game winners came in overtime the last weekend of the regular season as the Golden Flashes wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the MAC Tournament.  In the MAC Tournament Johl scored in both games for Kent State as she ended the season with a string of four consecutive games with a goal scored.  

A sophomore, Lee is psychology major with a 4.0 GPA.  A pivotal part of the Kent State offense, she was second on the team with seven goals scored while also adding two assists this year.  

In addition seniors Amy Wimsatt (Louisville, Ky.), Chelsea Sickel (Plaistow, N.H. ) along with sophomores Sabrina Binder (Krefeld, Germany), Melanie Kahn (San Diego, Calif.), Alyssa McFerren (Gibbsboro, N.J.) were recognized with an honorable mention selection
