Two-time MAC Coach of The Year inked through 2015-16 academic year

KENT, Ohio – The Kent State field hockey program is assured to be in the well placed hands of Head Coach Kathleen Wiler for the near future.  Director of Athletics Joel Nielsen has announced a four year contract extension for the two-time Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year which will take her through the 2015-16 academic year.  

Having just competed her sixth season as head coach at Kent State in 2011, Wiler has returned the Golden Flashes storied program to the upper echelon of the MAC.

Under her guidance the Golden Flashes have won a share three regular season league titles in 2008, 2009 and 2010 compiling a 25-5 league record during three year span.  This past season the Golden Flashes earned the league's No. 2 seed and advanced to the MAC Tournament championship game for a third time in the last four years.  

During Wiler's tenure, the program has produced four All-America selections, two MAC Player of the Year and three MAC Newcomer's of the Year among the 29 All-MAC honors earned by 16 different players.

More importantly the Golden Flashes have had just as much (if not more) success in the classroom.  Since Wiler took over the program, Kent State has had at least nine players named to the NFHCA's National Academic Squad every season, including a school record 10 players in 2008 and 2010.  In addition Stephanie Bernthal (2008) and Allison Kittelberger (2009) were selected to the ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District squad in the heavy populated At-Large division

Wiler currently ranks third all-time at Kent State with 71 career wins and second with 40 league wins during which she has compiled a .667 winning percentage (40-20).
