Kent State Field Hockey To Welcome 10 Newcomers for 2012


Golden Flashes incoming freshmen will join 14 returnees in the fall

KENT, Ohio — Kent State field hockey head coach Kathleen Wiler has announced the addition of 10 newcomers who have inked a National Letter of Intent to join the Golden Flashes program as freshmen in the fall of 2012

"We are very excited about this group of individuals and the talent they bring to our program in all aspects of the game," said Wiler.

5-3 • Midfield/Back
Gaithersburg, Md. • Quince Orchard High School


Named First Team All-Gazette and Washington Post Honorable Mention All-MET in 2011. Helped lead Quince Orchard to regional championships in 2008 & 2010.  Is a member of the National English Honor Society.  Played club field hockey for the Washington Wolves with fellow incoming freshman Mary Plotas for the past four seasons.
   

Mary Plotas
5-2 • Forward
Brookeville, Md. • Our Lady of Good Counsel High School


Was a three-time All-County and three-time All-Conference recipient, including WCAC Player of the Year honors in 2010.  Earned Washington Post All-MET recognition in 2010 & 2011.  In three years as a varsity player she totaled 38 goals and 33 assists while leading Good Counsel to three league championship games. Was a four-year Region 7 futures participant.  Played club field hockey for the Washington Wolves with fellow incoming freshman Kelly Baick for the past four seasons.
     
   

Karleigh Carlin
5-3 • Forward
Drexel Hill, Pa. • Country Day School of the Sacred Heart


Named a AACA All-Star as well as All-Delaware County and All-Main Line.  Played WC Eagles club team for three years with incoming freshman Alayna Harris.  Was captain of both the field hockey and lacrosse team at Country Day.

Collegeville, Pa. • The Shipley School Heart


A three-time First Team All Friends League and two-time First Team All Main Line while playing for four straight league championship teams that compile a four-year record of 36-0 in league play.  Averaged five defensive saves a game and added three goals and five assists on offense her senior year.  Played for the WC Eagles club team with incoming freshmen Karleigh Carlin.
 
   

Kimberly Henry
5-6 • Goalkeeper • Stroudsburg, Pa. • Stroudsburg High School


Named Mountain Valley Conference First team and Allentown Morning Call All-Area after making 97 Saves in 14 games in 2011.  Was also tagged as the Holland Field Hockey Tournament Best Female Goal Keeper. Received Honorable Mention all-conference honors in 2010.  Is a member of the academic honor roll at Stroudsburg.
 
   

Mackenzie Holme
5-5 • Goalkeeper
Redford, Mich. • Ladywood High School


Received Honorable Mention All-State honors and was a member of the NFHCA National Academic squad in 2011 while leading Ladywood High School to a school best No. 2 state ranking.  Won the 2011 league and sectional championships before advancing to the state final four.  Earned first team all league honors in 2010 as her team claimed the Division II state title.
 
   

Alexis Madeira

Harrisburg, Pa. • Central Dauphin High School


As a senior in 2011 honored with PSFHCA First Team All-State recognition.  Played for the Key state club team.  Is an honor roll student at Central Dauphin.
 
   

Carley Thieret
5-2 • Forward/Midfield 
Pittsburgh, Pa • North Allegheny High School


Was a 2011 PSFHCA First Team All-State selection and a two-time WPIAL All-Star.  Established the North Allegheny career (49 goals; 29 assists) and single season (31 goals and 14 assists) scoring record.  Led the state of Pennsylvania with 76 total points in 2011.
 
   

Susanne Felder

Helped lead her team to six Berlin and five Germany championship appearances
 
   

Caroline Corthouts
5-6 • Forward
Sterrebeek, Belgium • Leerwijzer


Joined the Golden Flashes in the spring of 2012 and has four years of eligibility remaining.  Played for the highest Division  of club hockey in Belgium.
