SCOUTING THE FLASHES

The Kent State gymnastics team dropped their season-opening meet Sunday afternoon with a close 192.650-192.025 setback to Mid-American Conference foe Western Michigan. Despite having all four of the top scores on each of the apparatuses, Kent State's suffered its first loss to the Broncos since the 2006 season.

Freshman Whitnee Johnson (Columbia, Mo.) took home all-around honors. Along with her fourth-place finish on the floor, Johnson tied for second on the beam, tied for third in the vault, and placed ninth on the bars. Sophomore Marie Case (Erie, Pa.) won both the floor and beam, while junior Lindsay Runyan (Maineville, Ohio) was victorious on the bars and freshman Chelsea Drooger (Holland, Mich.) was the top performer on the vault.
