Case, Goldenberg Again Sweep MAC Weekly Honors for Gymnastics

Kent State duo named Gymnast, Specialist of the Week the same week for the second time this season

KENT, Ohio – For the second time this season, Kent State gymnasts Marie Case (Erie, Pa.) and Rachel Goldenberg (Doylestown, Pa.) swept the Mid-American Conference's weekly awards, as Case was tabbed MAC Gymnast of the Week while Goldenberg garnered Specialist of the Week accolades.

The weekly honor was the fourth this season for Case and third consecutively, while the award was the third for Goldenberg this year.

Case etched her name in Kent State's top 10s with her performances on the beam and floor Against Cornell March 18. Earning a 10.0 and 9.9 from the judges on the floor exercise, Case scored a career-best 9.950 and is now tied for fifth in team history. Case also was the meet's top scorer with a career-best 9.925 on the balance beam, a mark that is tied for sixth-best in program records. Case finished with a 39.275 all-around score, the fifth time this season she has surpassed 39.200.

Goldenberg, a senior, also shone bright in her final home meet at the M.A.C. Center, where she posted a career-best on the floor and winning the vault in Kent State's finale for the 2012 regular season. Goldenberg got the Golden Flashes off on the right foot with a 9.875 on the vault, marking her third win of the season on the vault. Then, to cap Kent State's performance on the floor, Goldenberg scored a 9.925 for a career-best and finishing second to Marie Case's 9.950.

Kent State will now prepare for the 2012 MAC Championships, hosted by Northern Illinois University, on Saturday, March 24.
