Case and Goldenberg Help Flashes Sweep Weekly Awards

Sunday, Feb. 19, Flip For The Cure proved to benefit not only the J.D. Breast Cancer Foundation and breast cancer awareness, but the Kent State University gymnastics squad as well. Two KSU gymnasts earned MAC honors as a result of their performances: sophomore Marie Case and senior Rachel Goldenberg.

Marie Case was named the MAC Gymnast of the Week. Case (Erie, Pa.) had her best meet of the season with a stellar 39.225 all-around score against Northern Illinois. The sophomore won the beam with a season-best 9.800 and then tied for the team lead on the floor exercise with a 9.850. Case just missed tying her personal best with her 9.850 on the uneven bars to take second overall.

The MAC also named Rachel Goldenberg as Specialist of the week. Goldenberg (Doylestown, Pa.) turned in a pair of top performances to help Kent State post their highest point total of the season in the Golden Flashes' win over Northern Illinois. As the team's final vault performer, Goldenberg posted a 9.825, second-best overall. Then, in the team's finale on the floor, Goldenberg had a meet-best 9.850 to help Kent State post a 195.525 in the victory.

Next up for Kent State is a four-team meet at N.C. State Friday, Feb. 24. Along with the Wolfpack, the Golden Flashes will face Michigan State and Towson.
