Kent State vs. Tulsa Post-Game Quotes

Kent State Head Coach Geno Ford

Opening Statement:
"I love these kids They are so tough, and they bounce back from adversity. They handle adversity better than success. Even though we won the league and won 24 games, we went out and had our worst game of the year in the conference tournament at both ends of the floor. We found a way to beat a team I have a lot of respect for."

On play of senior guard Tyree Evans:
"Tyree was great. He got us going. We were in trouble when he got hot. The first three he made when it touched every part of the rim before it went in, he kind of smiled and relaxed, and I think it got everyone on our team going. Then he rattled off two more in a row. The kids did a good job looking for him."

On significane of program's first post-season win in eight years:
"These games are hard to win. I had people all week talking about if the guys would be focused or ready. Was I concerned about that? Yes. That's not good enough against these kind of teams. You not only have to be focused, but you have to play really well. That second half might be the best we've had all year, and we won by one at the buzzer. They're (Tulsa) just as good as a South Florida or a Xavier or a Pittsburgh. We played a great game."

Kent State Senior Guard Tyree Evans

On team extending its season:
"We're a family. We had to put our foot down tonight so we could stay together a little bit longer."

On finding a way to hit several clutch shots:
"I don't think I'm struggling. Everybody misses shots. I look at it like the next one is going in. The team was counting on me to make shots."

Kent State Senior Guard Chris Singletary

On what fueled the team to victory:
"I think having another chance to put on a Kent State jersey really helped. We always want to defend our home court. To be able to put on this shirt again and come out and play in front of our fans really helped us out."

Kent State Redshirt Junior Guard Rodriquez Sherman

On team winning first post-season tournament game since 2002:
"It feels great. This is our first postseasn win in eight years, so it was big."

Tulsa Head Coach Doug Wojcik

Opening Statement:
"That was a very good college basketball game. Give Kent State a lot of credit for having strong will at the end of the game to win the game. Our defense just wasn't good enough to win the game. We didn't get enough stops."
