First Team Selection Greene Highlights Four All-MAC Picks For Kent State
Porrini (Third), Guyton (H.M.) & Holt (H.M.) also named for the Golden Flashes
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Kent State landed four on the 2012 Mid-American Conference all-league team highlighted by first team honoree Justin Greene (Brooklyn, NY). Senior guard Michael Porrini (Massillon, Ohio) was a third team selection while junior guard Randal Holt (Cleveland, Ohio) and senior guard Carlton Guyton (Chicago, Ill.) received honorable recognition.
Greene is now the eighth two-time First Team All-MAC player in Kent State history following a season in which he ranked fourth in the league with 15.4 points per game during conference play. The only active player in the MAC with career totals over 1,000 points, 100 blocks and 100 steals, he also added 6.7 rebounds per game this season and will close out his career ranked second all-time at Kent State with nearly 800 rebounds. In addition to his first team honors the past two seasons, Greene was a second team selection in 2010.
The versatile Porrini earns his second All-MAC nod is as many years following an honorable mention season last year. This year he was the only player in the MAC to average better than nine points, five assists and four rebounds during league play this season. On the year he averaged 8.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.6 assists, and 1.9 steals while hitting on over 38 percent from three.
The 2011 MAC Sixth-Man of the Year, Guyton was tabbed honorable mention in 2012. This year he averaged 10.6 points and 3.8 assists per game, while leading the team in minutes played. He came on strong down the stretch averaging 13.0 points over the final nine games.
Holt was also tabbed honorable mention after averaging 12.6 points on the year and 13.4 points during MAC play. His 65 three-pointers are the fourth most by any player in the league this season.
Its the first time since 2008 and only the third time (2002, 2008, 2012) in school history that Kent State has had four players on the all-conference team
Kent State begins play in the MAC Tournament with a quarterfinal game on Thursday night at 7 pm.
