The Game
Kent State will try to win its third consecutive home game in Mid-American Conference play when it hosts Miami University on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
While the Golden Flashes trail 44-86 in the all-time series with Miami, they have won the last three games played in Kent, including last season's 71-67 battle on Jan. 11, 2012. Current Kent State senior Randal Holt scored 16 points in that victory over the RedHawks.
Miami won 62-60 in Oxford on Feb. 21, 2012, holding off a late Kent State rally. Holt scored 12 of his 15 points in the second half as the Golden Flashes tried to erase a double-digit deficit.
Darren Goodson and Kris Brewer have given Kent State consistent No. 3 and 4 scorers in the last few weeks, taking some of the pressure off of top scorers Chris Evans (16.8) and Randal Holt (14.1). In their last five games, Goodson is averaging 15 points and shooting 56 percent from the field while Brewer is averaging 12.4 points and shooting 57 percent from three-point range.
Evans, Holt, Goodson and Brewer all scored in double figures on Wednesday when the Golden Flashes scored an 87-72 home win over Central Michigan.
Miami has lost six of its last seven games, including a 54-50 loss to Akron on Saturday. The RedHawks led 25-16 at the half in Oxford before the Zips battled back to extend their winning streak to 11 games.
Junior guard Allen Roberts leads Miami in scoring at 12.8 per game, followed by 6-foot-7 junior forward Will Felder at 11.5 and freshman guard Reggie Johnson at 9.1.
